Day to day job roles
A typical day for David involves driving to a client’s location to carry out portable appliance testing or emergency light testing to help them achieve electrical compliance. Prior to attending site, David receives a job sheet detailing the project and any information required to carry out the work. When the testing is complete, David produces a report to send to the client.
The work varies greatly depending upon the client, the environment and the requirements of the project.
PAT Testing
Career progression at Intersafe
David had no prior experience in compliance or electrical testing. He began his career at Intersafe by carrying out portable appliance testing only, but he now regularly works on emergency lighting testing projects too. After further training, David will soon move into a Fixed Wire Testing position.
During his time at Intersafe, David has received training in health and safety, Fixed Wire Testing and attended FIA webinars. He has achieved the following qualifications:
- City and Guilds 2377-22 Portable Appliance Testing
- City & Guilds 2377-32 Portable Appliance Testing
What are your favourite projects you’ve worked on?
“My favourite PAT Testing projects that I have been involved with are the Nissan Technical Centre and The University of Oxford.
“For emergency lighting, my favourite project was Godolphin. I also like any site where they carry out remedial work as a result of the report.”
What would you say to someone who’s thinking of joining Intersafe?
“If you’re prepared to work hard, are self-motivated, trustworthy and professional then you’d be a good fit. There is a fair bit of driving involved, but if you are happy with that then you should go for it.”
Favourite part of the job?
Travelling
Travelling to new locations and not being at the same one every day.
Emergency lighting
Emergency lighting checks, especially when the customer acts on it – not just for their own premises but for the remedial work that it creates.
Independent work
Being trusted to carry out the work in a safe and efficient manner
Meeting Clients
Meeting new customers and helping to achieve their needs.
